Quick and Easy Night Cap - Hot Milk with Cinnamon

Nighttime is perhaps the most popular time of day to offer beverages such as this, as warm milk has long been regarded as a sleep aid. While that hasn't been proven scientifically, it certainly can be argued by some that enjoying a glass of warm milk is a relaxing, soothing way to end a busy day.

Cinnamon has its own list of health benefits, among them, being the ability to help lower blood sugar levels, boost brain function, and act as an antioxidant. Of course, when enjoyed in a recipe such as this, it's the aromatic, sweet flavor that carries most of the cinnamon's appeal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 small pieces of cinnamon bark
  • granulated sugar (or vanilla-flavored sugar) to taste
  • Garnish: ground cinnamon

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Place the milk and cinnamon bark in a small saucepan and heat almost to scalding; little bubbles should just begin forming around the perimeter.

  3. Remove the cinnamon bark and any skin that has formed on the surface of the milk. 

  4. Stir in sugar to taste.

  5. If desired, use a whisk to lightly froth the surface of the milk. You can do this by quickly pivoting the whisk handle in a back-and-forth motion between your palms.

  6. Pour the milk into a cup or mug and garnish with the froth and a little ground cinnamon. Serve immediately.

  7. Enjoy!
